How do the classifieds work?
On the front page for the NFED Equestrian Classifieds
and on the left hand menu, you will see several buttons or links that
allow you to view, post, modify, or delete ads. If you submit a new advert,
you will be asked to select a password for that ad, your advert will also
be given a number. Please keep these details safe as you will need them
should you wish to modify or remove your ad in the future.
If you submit a new advert it will be checked by the administrator before
being approved and made accessible to the public. If your advert is subject
to payment, it will not be approved until payment is received. If your
advert does not follow guidelines, is missing required information or
posted in the wrong category, it will not be approved.

Are the NFED Classifieds Successful?
Yes, very successful. Please see our Testimonials page. The amount of new adverts posted everyday goes to prove just how popular the classifieds are. The site receives thousands of visitors each day, most of whom browse the classifieds.
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes on search engine positioning and cross linking. We also subscribe to the Google adwords scheme, paying for sponsored links on the Google network.
This said, we cannot work miracles: The animal or item has to be saleable and priced correctly. It is up to the advertiser to create a good advert,
a good photograph will always make a huge difference.

Printing an Advert Click on the expand icon in the bottom right hand corner of each advert to open the advert in a new window. This will allow you to print an individual advert rather than the whole page.

Website Links
You can post a website link to give further details, videos or photos. Any websites so linked, must be directly relevant to the advert and not in competition with the NFED or our sponsors. Current site sponsors, i.e. any person, company or business that has a listing in the business directory, banner advert, or affiliate page is allowed to post their website details on any classified advert.
Links are only permitted at our discretion and we reserve the right to remove any website link without notice. If a link is removed by us, but replaced by the advertiser, the advert will be subject to removal without notice.

How do I get a featured ad?
Featured adverts are selected by the administrator for inclusion in our RSS Feeds. This will place a shortened version of the advert on the NFED home & index pages as well as our Twitter & Facebook pages with a link to the full advert. There is no extra charge for inclusion but in general adverts selected will be paid for and/or of particular interest for an equestrian website. If you have a free advert, but would like to make it eligible for selection, you can pay the standard advert fee which will bring it to the attention of the administrator. Selections are entirely at the discretion of the administrator. As featured ads are given premium positions & shown elsewhere, selected ads must be suitable, on topic & reflect well on the site, although payment does make an advert eligible, it does not guarantee selection or compensate for an unsuitable advert.

How much does it cost to place
a classified ad?
There is a single standard charge of £8.50 for all adverts that require payment. All adverts are displayed for up to 6 months.
Wanted or Offered with a value of under £100 are free of charge providing the asking price is shown in the advert.
All offered ads with a value of £100 or over are £8.50.
Offered adverts with no price displayed, POA, Offers, etc, are £8.50
Ads asking for any kind of rent or regular payment of £100 or more per month will be subject to the standard £8.50 payment.
As it has proved impossible to differentiate between genuine loans & loans with view to buy, all full loan offered ads are £8.50. When it comes to loans there are many grey areas, but if the animal can be moved to new premises, this is assumed to be a full loan, so payment will be required.
Horses or ponies for share are free of charge at the administrators discretion providing that you are not asking for £100 or more per month towards costs, but this must be made clear in your advert. If no price is given, the monthly cost is £100.00 or more, or if there is any possibility of the animal being offered for full loan or sale the advert will be subject to the standard £8.50 charge.
Stallions at stud are £8.50.
Adverts for livery or grazing vacancies are £8.50. If the yard is listed in the Business Directory, vacancies can be advertised free of charge for as long as the directory listing is active. If the directory listing expires, any free livery classifieds will be deleted.
Employment wanted or offered are free. The free employment section is aimed at employers with vacancies or people seeking full or part time employment which does not include services offered for payment.
Adverts offering any type of service for payment are not permited. Please use the Business & Services Directory section. Please Click Here.
General livery yard adverts will not be approved, Please use the Business & Services Directory section. Please Click Here.
Adverts subject to payment will only be approved when payment has been
received. You can pay by credit/debit/Paypal card securely online through our shopping cart system, Paypal on its own, phone, cash or post a cheque.
Please Click Here for
details. If payment is not received within 2 days, the advert is deleted from the waiting list.
How do the payments work?
New adverts that are subject to payment will not be posted by the administrator until payment has been received.
To make things as simple as possible for our users, we offer several different payment options.
You can purchase your adverts and extras such as Thumbnail Galleries through our shopping cart system and then pay online by debit/credit card, Paypal or Bank Transfer. Once you have a shopping cart account, your name & contact details will be remembered, which will save time each time you use the system & you can log in at anytime to view or print invoices. Using Paypal express will bypass the login section offering a very quick way to pay, but still provide an invoice.
All card payments are processed by Sagepay. We have been certified as PCI DSS Compliant by Security Metrics on behalf of HSBC.
If you prefer not to pay online, we also accept card payments by phone, cheques by post or if your are local, you can pay by cash. If you phone and we are out of the office, please leave your name and number and we will return your call.
When we receive notification that the payment has been received, adverts will normally be approved within 24 hours, you will be sent confirmation by Email.
This is not a completely automated process; all adverts are checked by the administrator before approval. If the advert is not approved, your payment will be refunded. All transactions will show on your statement as “CK Art-NFED”. If payment is received for an advert that does not require payment, we will assume that you wish to list your ad under featured ads. This will be done for you providing the advert is suitable.
Please note: The secure server is on a different system to the remainder of the site, if the server is unavailable, please try again later.
You will be sent a reminder by Email if payment is not received, the advert will then be removed from the waiting list the following day. If a cheque is received after the advert has expired, a replacement advert will be posted for you.

Do I have to use my real name when posting an advert?
You are fully responsible for your advert, so we do need to know who has posted the advert.
We fully understand the need for Internet safety so if you would prefer not to show your name & address online we have two options:
1: Supply your name & address by Email. You will given a user name that you can use in all of your adverts in place of your name & address
2: If you have paid for your advert using our shopping cart system, the confirmation Email will contain a User ID that can be exchanged for your name & address in all current & future adverts.
If details are not supplied, or we cannot trace the advertiser, your advert will be rejected. In all cases your details will always be kept in strictest confidence and will not used for advertising purposes or passed on anyone other than the relevant authorities in the event of an investigation.

Why do I have to give my address
when posting an advert?
Over the many years that we have been running this website, we have been asked to help several police forces and authorities including Trading Standards with their enquiries into various advertiser’s activities. Although all advertisers are solely responsible for their own adverts, we have to accept some responsibility for the website and who we allow to use it.
We fully understand that you may not want to show your street address and phone number so we have provided an option to hide the details from public view in your advert, but it is important to have this information on record in the event of an investigation.

How do I hide my address and phone number?
On the advert submission form there is an option which asks “Would you like to display your postal address and phone number in ad?” simply select NO and your street address and telephone number fields will not be shown in your advert. If you would like to show your telephone number, but not your street address, the number will have to be put it the main advert text.
For safety reasons, we recommend that anyone under the age of 16 does not show a phone number or street address in their advert.
What should I put in the "Text
of Ad" box?
We advise you to first type out your advert in a word processing program such as MS Word. This gives you a chance to read back your advert, check your spelling and grammar, all of which can make your advert so much more appealing to potential buyers. Please don’t type in upper case, this is considered as shouting & makes an advert very difficult to read. When you are happy with the advert, simply copy (control c) and paste (control v) it into the submission form. There is no need to make your text fit the submission form, the software will make your text fit the page.
Please describe the animal or item that you are trying to sell honestly and include as much detail as you can including sex, size, age, breeding, colour, temperament, experience, build, vices, problems, etc. You can use a maximum 600 words and obviously a good photo really can make all the difference, so try to include one or even a thumbnail gallery if you can. If you have any problems with the photos, we can normally sort them out for you.
The search facilities will search for matching words in your advert title or text, so to give your advert the best possible chance ensure that keywords are included & spelt correctly. For example, if you are advertising a thoroughbred don’t just put TB, but include thoroughbred in your advert. Include other words that are appropriate & may be searched for, i.e. dressage, show jumping. After you advert has been approved, try searching for it & modify it if necessary to improve the search performance.
Remember to include the price, if no price is given it will be assumed to be at least £100 this will make your advert subject to payment and your advert will not be approved until payment has been received.

Does my advert work?
You should receive an automated reply when your advert
was submitted, if you did not receive this there may be problem. Try sending
a reply to your own NFED Classified advert to see if it works.
If you do not receive your enquiry there are a number of things to check.
First of all, check that you have entered your Email address correctly.
This can be done using the ““Modify Ad” option. Remember that there should
be no spaces in an Email address. If your address is correct, check your
anti-spam software and folders to ensure the Emails are not getting blocked.
If you are an AOL user, see next paragraph.
If none of these options work, try opening a new free Email account and
changing your address using the ““Modify Ad” option. We personally would
recommend www.fmail.co.uk
which is an excellent free service and has been fully tested with the
classifieds. It can also be added to your Outlook or other Email clients
to send & receive in the normal way.

Important Information for AOL
Users
We have been receiving reports from AOL users who are
having problems receiving replies to their classified adverts. On further
investigation, this seems to be down to AOL’s latest anti-spam software
blocking automated or form generated Emails. This is a well documented
problem with AOL which is affecting companies all around the world, making
it impossible for them to contact customers on AOL.
Until this matter is resolved, we advise all AOL users not to use their
standard AOL Email address in the classifieds or NFED mailing list. The
simplest way over the problem is to open a free Email account, such as
Fastmail, Hotmail or Yahoo and use this Email account for your classifieds
advert/s.
You should have received an automated reply when your advert was submitted,
if you did not receive this, it has probably been blocked by AOL. Try
sending a reply to your own NFED Classified advert to see if it works.
If it does not work, open a new Email account. You can then change the
Email address used for your advert with the “Modify Ad” option. If you
didn’t receive the automated Email containing your advert number, this
can be seen on the left hand side of your ad, just above “Date Submitted”.
If you would prefer not to open a new account you can add the email address
to the advert description or ensure that your advert is clearly marked
NO EMAIL.

Horses or ponies for loan, share or lease
As it has proved impossible to differentiate between genuine loans & loans with view to buy or lease, all full loans are now treated as offered with no price displayed & are therefore subject to the standard £8.50 charge.
Horses or ponies for share or part loan may be free of charge at the administrators discretion providing that you are not asking for £100 or more per month towards costs & this is made clear in the advert. If no price is given, or the monthly cost is £100.00 or more, the advert will be subject to the standard £8.50 charge before approval. If there is any possibility of a full loan or sale, payment will be required. When it comes to loans there are many grey areas, but if the animal can be moved to new premises, this is assumed to be a full loan, so payment will be required.

How do I know if I am buying
from or selling to a dealer?
Although it is the dealer’s responsibility to make this
clear when they place an advert, some will still advertise and act as
private sellers. Check the passport for previous owners and if in doubt,
contact the previous owners for the animal’s history. If the seller does
not have the passport or does not let you see it, walk away.
Selling a horse can be a very emotional business and there are those that
will take advantage of this. People sometimes sale a horse or pony cheaply
as they think it will be going to a good home. There are those that will
take advantage of the situation, buy the animal only to sell it on very
quickly for a profit. If you are in this situation, please be careful,
make enquiries into the buyer and consider a written contract to have
the animal back if it the buyer finds it unsuitable.

What does Forest Bred mean?
Forest Bred ponies or stock have had the benefit of spending some of their formative months on the open forest. Here they are absorbing valuable experiences. The New Forest has a varied terrain which includes streams, wooden bridges and tarmac roads with yellow/white markings. They will have seen all sorts of traffic and some will have lived near railway lines and trains. Besides living in the company of cattle, deer, donkeys and occasional pigs, they also meet the general public with buggies, cycles, dogs and children. Please Click Here for further details about the ponies on the forest.

Trade/Dealer/Breeder Advertising
Notice
The Business Advertisement Disclosure Order 1977 came
to effect on January 1st 1978 and requires that all advertisements by
people who seek to sell goods in the course of business to make the fact
clear. This requirement applies, whether the advertiser is acting on his
own behalf or for some other person in the course of whose business goods
are to be sold. Consumers should be able to tell whether an advertisement
relates to a sale by a trade or private seller. It is the responsibility
of the advertiser to comply with the Order. It is an offence for which
you may be prosecuted not to advertise the fact that you are a trader/dealer.
Any trader who posts an advert must supply full contact details, including
an address and landline telephone number, even if they are not shown in
the advert. Any trade ad not complying will be removed. No refunds will
be given.

Two or more animals or items in one advert
You are allowed to put more than one horse or item in your advert but certain restrictions apply on top of the normal guidelines.
The advert cost is calculated on the value of the individual items or animals, not the total value. If all the items or animals are priced with a value of less than £100, payment will not be required. If any of the items or animals are not priced or have a value of £100 or over, the advert will charged the standard price of £8.50.
The photo help does apply, but we will not change the photograph for you if one of the items or animals are sold. Thumbnail galleries and compilation photos are not available, but you are welcome to make your own compilation image.
The advert will not be renewed to bring it back to the top without charge.
If your advert is modified at a later date, i.e. items removed leaving the ad in the wrong category; the advert will be removed without notice. For example: If you are advertising a saddle and trailer and the advert is posted in the saddlery section, anyone looking for a trailer may not see your advert. If the saddle is sold and removed from the ad leaving just the trailer, your advert will be in the wrong category and will be subject to removal by the administrator.

How do I know if my advert has been approved?
We try to keep the cost of this service as low as possible
and reducing administration does help. If you have submitted payment,
and your advert has been approved, you will receive confirmation by Email.
If you have submitted a free advert, you will NOT be notified. Please
return and check the classifieds; If your advert has been approved you
will be able to view it normally without logging in. Try browsing the
adverts and noting the latest advert numbers. If the numbers are above
your own advert number, there may be a problem with your advert. Please
see the below for possible reasons.
How long will it be before my advert is approved?
Adverts are approved frequently throughout the day between 07.00am & 10.30pm every day including weekends & bank holidays, but please allow up to 24 hours. Providing we are in an area with a mobile signal, we can also approve ads when we are out of the office, but cannot send receipts or resize/upload photos received by Email, this will be done when we return to the office.
Why was my advert rejected?
All new ads have to be approved by the administrator, yes a real person before they are posted on the site, this is normally done within 24 hours, but may take longer at busy times. The payment cut off is strictly £100. Offered adverts submitted with a value of £100 or more require payment, adverts valued at £99.99 or less do not.
If you are advertising an animal or item with a value of £100 or greater, loan, stallion at stud the advert, grazing, livery or if no price is given, the advert is subject to payment and will not be approved until payment has been received.
To allow us to calculate the cost of your advert correctly and to discourage equine crime, you must describe the animal or items as accurately as possible. Adverts without an adequate description are not approved, i.e. “various of items or ponies, call for details or similar” will be rejected.
If no price is shown, POA, offers, swap or similar is displayed, we will assume that the value is at least £100 and the advert will not be
approved until payment has been received.
The free employment section is aimed at employers with vacancies or people seeking full or part time employment. Adverts advertising any kind of service in exchange for payment, are not free and should be placed in the NFED business directory.
Please Click Here.
The free riders wanted or available section is aimed at people with spare
time to ride, or those looking for somebody to ride their horse. Any adverts
advertising riding for payment, instruction, breaking, exercising, etc,
are offering a professional service, are therefore not free and should
be placed in the NFED business directory. Please Click
Here.
All adverts must comply to our guidelines and to discourage dishonest advertisers full contact details must be supplied, but you can choose to have these hidden from public view. For safety reasons, we recommend that anyone under the age if 16 does not show a phone number or street address in their advert. Any adverts not complying to the
guidelines, trying to fool the system, or posted by blacklisted advertisers
will not be accepted.
Adverts that do not have full address details or User ID WILL NOT be approved. Typing
XXXXXX or anything other than an address in the address box will automatically
disqualify your advert. Our rule of thumb is would you receive a letter
if it was sent to the address supplied, but this may be more relaxed with
adverts paid for by card as your address is supplied with the payment
details.
Although some categories are more flexible than others, in general adverts posted in the wrong category, will not be approved.
Please do not post multiple adverts for the same animal or item, offered or wanted. This is unfair on the other advertisers & you risk having all your adverts removed for abusing the system
If you have submitted payment, but your advert does not follow guidelines,
your payment will not be collected and you will be notified by Email.
I have paid for my advert submitted last week, but it is not on the front page?
Approved adverts are posted in the order that they are
submitted (by Ad Number), not in the order that they are approved. Delaying
payment can result in your advert not appearing on the front page as any
adverts submitted and approved after yours will be posted in front. To
maximise your advertising coverage, we recommend that you pay as soon
as possible. If this is not possible, it may be worth considering removing
the original advert and submitting a new one before paying.

How do I modify my ad?
Go to the Advert Control Panel on the main Classifieds menu and click on the "Modify My Advert" button, you will then be taken to a search fom. The
form will ask for the ad number and the password (case sensitive) that you entered with this ad. Once you have entered these, click on the "Search for Item to Modify" button. If you entered the correct information, your ad will be displayed with a modification form beneath it. The current information from your ad will already be filled in, so you only need to modify the fields that you want to change. Once you have filled in the form, click on the "Submit Modifications" button. You should then see an acknowledgement page if your ad was successfully modified.
Please note that the default setting will hide your street address & phone number. If you would like to show your address, you must select YES each time you modify your advert. If you would like to give a phone number, but hide the address, seclect NO & include the number in your advert text.
To keep the Classifieds in order, any adverts marked as sold or that are obviously no longer required will be periodically removed by the administrator. Any suitable comments will be copied onto the Testimonials page.
When an advert is approved, it is only for the animal or item originally submitted. Adverts are not allowed to be modified to advertise a different animal/s or items. The administrator will receive notification by Email when any modifications are made. If the advert is changed to a different item or animal, the price is increased to £100 or any other changes are made that do not fit within the guidelines, the advert will removed without notice. No refunds are given for advert removed for the above reason.
Can I renew my ad?
Yes, you can renew your advert two times for 90 days each time, giving up to 360 days advertising at no extra charge, but please note, renewing your advert only changes the expiry date, it does not bring the advert back to the top.
On the main Classifieds menu, you will find the "Modify Ad" button. If you click on this button, you will see a search form. The form will ask for the ad number and the password that you entered with this ad. Once you have entered these, click on the "Search for Item to Modify" button. If you entered the correct information, your ad will be displayed with a modification beneath it. The current information from your ad will already be filled in, so you only need to modify the fields that you want to change. At the bottom of the form, place a tick in the renew ad box and click on the "Submit Modification(s)" button. You should then see an acknowledgement page if your ad was successfully modified.
If you need to readvertise for any reason, please contact us. You will have to submit a new advert, providing the advert matches the original, your advert will be approved for no extra charge but you must inform us by Email. This service can also be used within reason if your advert has been online for a long time (minimum 8 weeks) to move it the front of the list, obviously this is open to abuse and will therefore entirely at the discretion of the administrator. This service is not available for ads that advertise more than one item, horse or pony.
Can I move my advert back to the top?
The adverts cannot be moved. Each advert is given a unique number when it is submitted, the adverts are then in strict numerical order which cannot be changed. To bring an advert back to the top it must be replaced entirely. If it is a free advert you can simply submit a new advert & remove the old one, but please be reasonable & give others a chance. If an advert is renewed too frequently, the administrator will refuse to approve it.
If the advert has been paid for & is a minimum of eight weeks old, it can be replaced free of charge but conditions do apply.
This is obviously open to abuse and is entirely at the administrators discretion.
We will not renew any advert that contains more than one animal or item.
Adverts offering grazing or livery vacancies will not be renewed, but any yard listed in the Directory can place a new advert for vacancies free of charge. If you often have vacancies, we recommend taking out a directory listing.
The animal or item readvertised must match the original advert, if there is any doubt the administrator will refuse to change the advert without payment.
To be fair to other advertisers, adverts under eight weeks old will not be replaced without payment under any circumstances, a replacement advert will have to be submitted & paid for in the normal way.
If you would like to renew your advert, please check the date to ensure that it is eight weeks old. Submit a new advert & Email the editor to explain why you would like to renew the advert, giving the old & new advert numbers. Providing everything is ok, the administrator will approve the new advert, copy over any photographs & delete the old advert for you.

Scams & Fraud
1/ This is a world wide problem, not only for Internet
sites, but also magazine & newspaper classifieds.
2/ Your Email address is hidden on the NFED Classifieds, unless you post
it in the body of your advert.
3/ If you reply to an enquiry to your advert, they will then have your
Email address. If the enquiry seems suspicious, ignore it.
4/ Don’t worry, the NFED Classified have become very popular with thousands
of successful adverts being posted. 99.999% of all users are genuine equestrian
enthusiasts; it only takes one person who can copy & paste the same Email
to several advertisers, to cause concern. If he/she is ignored, they will
move on.
To help combat this problem, we have created a special scam page listing
the latest scams and offenders. Please Click Here for full details. If you
receive any suspicious replies, please forward them to us for inclusion
on the page.

Using the Classifieds Search Facilities
The classifieds have two search engines, simple search & advance search.
Using either of these options can save a lot of time if you are looking for
a specific item or animal.
The simple search is located at the top of the classifieds under the drop down
menus. This is useful for basic searches & will search all categories. The
advanced search can be found on the left hand menu under viewing options, with
advanced search, you can choose which categories to search, time periods, whether
the ads have photos & how the adverts are shown. Both search engines can
save a lot of time if used correctly, so it is worth reading these basic tips
& having a practice.
- Don't use words that are in the category titles or it will find every advert
in that category.
- Don't use the, and, offered, ect or every advert will be found that contain
those words.
- If a word can be written different ways, search for common letters or carry
out several searches.
- Fewer words or part words are often better & give more accurate results.
Examples:
1/ Looking for an Albion Saddle, enter "Albion" & only adverts
containing "albion are found, enter "Albion saddle" & all adverts
with the word saddle are found. If you use the basic search all categories will
be searched, but use the advanced search & you can choose just the saddlery
offered category.
2/ If you are looking for a 13.2 driving pony. This can be written several
ways: driving, driven, drive. If you search for "driving" it will
not find "driven". Use the advance search & enter the common letters
"driv" & select the 14.2hh & under offered category. All adverts
which contain the letters driv (driving, driven, drive) in the under 14.2hh
category will be shown.
3/ You would like a new forest foal. Use the advance search, enter "forest"
& select the foals & youngstock category.
4/ You have forgotten your advert number. Enter your name in the basic search
& all adverts from that name are displayed.
5/ To view a certain advert, enter the advert number in basic search.

How do I contact someone who
has posted a classified ad?
Clicking on the Reply to Ad link on any advert will call
up an advert reply form. Enter your Email address and message to the advertiser
and then click on the Send Reply button. Your message will be sent to
the advertisers Email address.
Please note: For security reasons all advertisers Email addresses
are hidden in the NFED Classifieds unless they put it in the body of the
advert. To discourage scammers who send pre typed replies to hundreds
of advertisers, pasting has been disabled on the contact form and each
message will have to be typed directly into the form. Please avoid text
talk, give as much information as you can and ask sensible questions.
If your enquiry does not seem to be genuine, the advertisers are unlikely
to reply as this will give their Email address.
